U.S. Protection ​Secretary Pete Hegseth stated on Tuesday ‌(Might 5, 2026) {that a} U.S. operation ​to guard industrial ships ⁠from Iran within the Strait of Hormuz is momentary and Washington ‌just isn’t in search of a battle.

“Mission Freedom ‌is defensive in nature, ‌targeted ⁠in scope and momentary in ⁠period, with one mission, defending harmless industrial transport from Iranian aggression. ​American forces gained’t want ‌to enter Iranian waters or airspace. It’s not essential. We’re not in search of ‌a battle.” Mr. Hegseth stated ​throughout a briefing.
