Not less than 33 folks have been killed after Islamic militants launched simultaneous assaults on a district in northwest Nigeria, in accordance with the police.
The assault befell on Wednesday (February 18, 2026) within the Biu group of Kebbi State, police spokesman Bashir Usman stated in a press release late on Thursday (February 19, 2026) evening.
The assailants crossed from Sokoto state, elements of that are occupied by the Lakurawa rebel group, Mr. Usman stated.
“Preliminary investigations verify that armed Lakurawa militants entered the world to rustle cattle,” he stated, including that safety personnel have been deployed to revive calm and keep order.
The Lakurawa group operates in elements of northwestern Nigeria, notably round communities within the northwestern State of Sokoto. The armed group is thought to interact in cattle rustling, raids on villages and kidnappings for ransom.
Northern Nigeria is within the grip of a fancy safety disaster that includes each Islamic militants and armed prison gangs kidnapping folks for ransom.
The West African nation is in safety cooperation with the U.S. after preliminary diplomatic tensions. Earlier this week, the Nigerian army introduced the arrival of 100 U.S. troops in Nigeria to assist prepare its army in its combat towards armed teams.
