The Strait of Hormuz remained closed on Sunday (April 19, 2026) within the stand-off between Iran and the USA, with Iran’s highly effective Speaker of Parliament signalling a last peace deal was “far” off regardless of motion in negotiations.

As mediation efforts continued following high-level talks in Pakistan that failed to succeed in a deal, Iran stated it will not reopen the essential maritime commerce route till the USA ended its blockade of Iranian ports.
