Nepal’s former Prime Minister, Okay.P. Sharma Oli, was taken into custody on Saturday (March 28, 2026) as police examine whether or not he was negligent in failing to stop dozens of deaths throughout Gen Z protests final September.

This week, a Nepali panel which investigated violence throughout the anti-corruption protests advisable that Mr. Oli, 74, be prosecuted for failing to stop the crackdown on the protests.
A complete of 76 individuals had been killed in two days of unrest, which led to Mr. Oli resigning.
“They took him from his residence this morning,” Min Bahadur Shahi, a senior chief of Oli’s Commmunist Celebration of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) informed Reuters.

Police spokesperson Om Adhikari confirmed the detainment of Mr. Oli and his Residence Minister, Ramesh Lekhak.
